The Western Wood Energy Power Plant (WWEP) is a biomass fired power plant built and owned by Western Bio-energy Ltd.
The biomass power plant was successfully commissioned in 2008 - 18 days ahead of schedule. An initial performance test showed:
- The overall cycle efficiency was 30 %
- The boiler efficiency was tested to 92 %
- The in-house power consumption for the whole plant was only: 1150 kW
UK's higest availability at 99%
In 2009, a 6 month availability test has been conducted and the overall availability for the whole power plant showed impressive 99% (APR - OCT 2009).
The WWEP has an annual fuel heat input of 160,000 tons of forestry wood or clean, uncontaminated residues from wood processing.
Turnkey supply
The supply was made in a consortium between a partner and Aalborg Energie Technik a/s. AET designed, supplied, constructed and commissioned the following scope:
- Fuel storage and preparation
- AET fuel feeding and dosing system
- AET Combustion System with spreader stoker and AET-Biograte
- AET boiler with superheater and economizer
- AET over fire air system
- Steam air preheaters
- Feed water system
- Oil burner
- Ash handling system
- Bag filter
- Stack
- PCL control system and instrumentation
- SCADA system
- Piping and ducting
- Insulation
- Structural steel
- Platforms and stairs
- Heat balance optimisation
