AET has secured an order for a 30 MWe biomass-fired power plant to be built in Russi near Ravenna.

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s (AET) has secured an order for a 30 MWe biomass-fired power plant to be built in Russi near Ravenna, in the province of Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

 

The joint venture between the Italian company Termokimik Corporation Impianti e procedimenti industriali SpA (TKC) and AET will provide the equipment for a biomass-fired power plant, including an AET Biomass Boiler, to be developed in the city of Russi. The project is owned by PowerCrop Russi S.r.l., a company owned and operated by Enel Green Power and Seci Energia.

The AET Biomass Boiler is designed for a fuel heat input of 88 MWt and will generate live steam at 122 bara and 542°C. The AET Biomass Boiler will at normal continuous rating have a fuel heat input of 84 MWt, and the power plant will then produce 30 MWe (gross).

 

The annual power production corresponds to the consumption of around 84,000 households, and the biomass fired power plant permits a reduction of carbon emission of 117,000 tons of CO2/year.

A joint venture has been formed between TKC and AET, in order to utilise both companies' strong competences:

  • TKC is a highly regarded Italian engineering and contracting company with special expertise in power plants.

  • AET with its reputation for consistently delivering well-functioning biomass-fired plants, which has high availability and a very high efficiency.

The strict emission requirements of the project will be fulfilled using Best Available Technology, including AET Combustion System, AET Biomass Boiler, electrostatic precipitator (ESP), bag filter and NOx and CO catalysts.

AET has previously delivered a 49 MWt boiler plant to Zignago Power in Fossalta di Portogruaro. In the past year AET has signed a contract with JG Pears in the United Kingdom for a turnkey delivery of a 42 MWt/12 MWe CHP plant, and another EPC contract for a 63 MWt/20 MWe plant; Cogéneration Biomasse de Novillars in France.

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s (AET) is to deliver a turnkey biomass-fired Cogeneration Plant in France

 

The start of construction of the new plant - Cogéneration Biomasse de Novillars (CBN) - took place Monday 5 December. The ground breaking ceremony was performed at the site of the Gemdoubs paper mill in Doubs, in the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, where the new CHP plant will be situated.

 

 

An exemplary project which fulfils strict French legislation.

The plant consists of fuel handling, AET Biomass Boiler, steam turbine, flue-gas cleaning system and steam connection to Gemdoubs. It has a fuel heat input of 63 MWth, an electrical capacity of 20 MWe and thermal energy of 23.5 MWth. The cogeneration plant will be highly optimised in order to fulfil the requirements set by the French government in the CRE 4 auction round, and will therefore have an overall efficiency of more than 65%. It will be equipped with the advanced AET- Combustion technology and AET SNCR DeNOx system, which will ensure very low level of emissions.

 

 

Green energy produced from locally sourced wood

The CBN plant will be located at the site of the Gemdoubs paper mill. It will supply steam to the paper mill for its production process, in which waste paper is recycled and used for producing cardboard boxes and packaging material. The biomass-fired cogeneration plant will generate 153 GWh/year of green electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of 105,600 people and 215,000 tonnes of steam, which previously was produced using fossil fuels.

CBN benefits from the abundance of wood in the vicinity, and the wood used as fuel will be sourced within a radius of 100 km from the plant, thereby also creating work in the local wood supply industry.

 

 

An investment of € 87 million

The construction costs of the CBN plant of € 87 million euros, has been financed through a non-recourse loan. A banking pool, consisting of a number of different banks, has financed the senior debt and other investors  have financed the mezzanine and the equity capital. Among the banks is Natixis Energéco while Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations did fund the project company at the mezzanine level and also in equity. Both Natixis Energéco and Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations already participated in the financing of the previous 2 biomass plants made by Akuo Energy.

 

The capital of CBN is divided between the following investors Akuo Energy (Néréa), Caisse des Dépôts et Consignation, CAM Energie, Gemdoubs and Crédit Agricole Franche-Comté Investissements.

Continued success for AET

AET has in the past years supplied four plants to another prominent French energy company, Cofely ENGIE (former GDF SUEZ), including Bio Cogelyo Normandie, SODC Orleans, Biomass Energy Solutions Vielle Saint Girons, and Biolacq Energies. This is the first time that the scope of AET includes a full O&M contract for a project in France. AET has previously supplied O&M services in United Kingdom with great success.

TILBURY GREEN POWER COMPLETES SUCCESSFUL BOILER PRESSURE TEST

17 September 2016

Tilbury Green Power (TGP) is pleased to confirm that the TGP Renewable Energy Plant has today, successfully completed its boiler pressure test, reaching the required 220 bar pressure.

The test involved the pumping of cold water within the boiler piping, steadily increasing the water pressure within the pipes to the required 220 bar, and examining the boiler pipework to confirm its integrity.

Mark Lawlor, TGP’s Construction Manager, said "This is a significant milestone for the project, having reached the boiler pressure test on schedule and successfully completing the test – congratulations to the entire team. We look forward to completing the remainder of the Plant by mid-2017.

Notes:

Tilbury Green Power Limited is constructing a renewable power plant fuelled by waste wood, within the Port of Tilbury on the banks of the River Thames. The project is developed by AET and BWSC in a consortium.

The Plant will have capacity of around 40 megawatts (MW) and will produce up to 319,000 MWh of renewable electricity each year – enough to supply around 97,000 average homes, and will play a valuable role in the UK meeting its target for producing 20% of its energy from renewable sources. The Plant will utilise around 270,000 tonnes of waste wood sourced from the region.

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s signed another EPC contract in the United Kingdom. The 42 MWt and 12 MWe cogeneration plant will be situated near Newark.

On 24 August 2016, Aalborg Energie Technik a/s signed a large contract with JG Pears Power Limited, for an EPC delivery of a biomass-fired 42 MWt / 12 MWe CHP plant near Newark, Nottinghamshire, in the UK. The delivery will include all elements of the cogeneration plant, such as the fuel storage, fuel handling and feeding system, AET Combustion System and AET Biomass Boiler, steam turbine, air cooled condenser, flue gas cleaning system, PLC control, SCADA system and buildings. The plant will be equipped with an efficient SCR system to ensure low emission levels. Handover is expected to take place in early 2018.

By implementing this cogeneration plant, the JG Pears facility will replace 90% of the fossil fuels previously used in the adjacent factory, saving significant carbon dioxide emissions. The plant will provide steam and electricity to the JG Pears rendering facility at Low Marnham, Newark. The CHP plant will also contribute to the UK’s energy needs by generating an average of 7 MWe, some of which will be used by the rendering plant with the balance exported to the National Grid.

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s celebrates its 20-year anniversary

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s (AET), the leading Danish supplier of biomass-fired boiler plants, power plants and cogeneration plants celebrates its 20-year anniversary on the 1st of July 2016. The company has grown steadily since it started, and now counts more than 100 employees.

 

When Aalborg Industries (now Alfa Laval Aalborg A/S) decided to close the biomass boiler business, a group of engineers and managers with a strong belief in the potential of biomass, decided to start their own company. This led to the creation of AET in 1996. The group brought their substantial experience with biomass-fired boilers into the new company and AET has since then perfected the combustion technology and boiler design. This is today the AET Combustion System and AET Biomass Boiler and recognised as the best available technology in the industry.

The company has strong values and strives toward always delivering the best solution to its customers on time and within budget as well as build and maintain long-term relations with its customers. The testimony of the quality of AET’s plants and customer satisfaction is the repeated orders from customers. As an example can be mentioned ENGIE Cofely, a subsidiary of the large French Utility company ENGIE (former GDF SUEZ), which has so far implemented four plants from AET: BioCogelyo in Rouen,SODC in Orléans, Biomass Energy Solutions in Vielle Saint Girons, and finally Biolacq Energies in Lacq.

 

AET is currently erecting a 125 MWt / 40 MWbiomass-fired turnkey plant to Tilbury Green Power in London, which will use waste wood as fuel. Once commissioned, AET will ensure the maintenance and operation of the plant during 20 years with a consortium partner. In addition to this, a coal to biomass conversion of the Danish plant Østkraft on Bornholm, is presently taking place. This plant will be able to use biomass and coal in any combination thanks to the unique AET Combi Spreader. AET have furthermore started engineering on a turnkey contract, which involves a 42 MWt AET Biomass Boiler and a 12 MWe steam turbine.

AET has received an order for the conversion of Østkraft's 20 year old boiler plant to combust biomass instead of coal.

The conversion and rebuilding with installation and commissioning will take place from July September 2016.

 

AET-developed Spreader Stoker makes efficient co-firing possible.

After the conversion the plant will be capable of firing 100 % biomass or 100 % coal or all other combinations in between. This is possible thanks to AET's in house knowledge and expertise and the AET Combi Spreader Stoker.

 

AET has an extensive experience with refurbishment and improvement of plants, a.o. AET has earlier been responsible for a similar conversion of the plant VERDO in Randers. VERDO has since 2009 also been responsible for giving advice to Østkraft, in order for them to select the best technology.

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s (AET) has made the final handover of the 37 MW boiler to SODC, the Cofely Services (ENGIE Group).

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s officially hands over the boiler plant to SODC, Orléans in France

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s (AET) has 3 February 2015 made the final handover of the 37 MW fuel heat input boiler (525 °C, 120 bara) to SODC, the Cofely Services (ENGIE Group) company which manages the district heating of the city of Orléans.

The SODC Orléans cogeneration plant supplies district heating for the northern part of Orléans as well as 8 MWe electricity to the grid - or up to 12 MWe in the warm season. The district heating network covers 15,000 homes, equivalent to 27% of the city of Orléans.

The fuel - approx. 110,000 tons/year of uncontaminated wood - is supplied within a radius of 150 kilometers and is based on three fuel sources: forestry products, residues from sawmills, and clean recycled wood.

The scope of AET included the AET Fuel dosing system, AET Combustion System, AET Biomass Boiler, the oil burner, the complete boiler house, the bag filter, and the PLC control system.

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s (AET) has 24 February 2015 made the final handover of the 50 MW fuel heat input boiler (525 °C, 120 bara) to Biomass Energy Solutions VSG - a consortium consisting of DRT, Cofely Services (ENGIE Group), and Caisse des Dépôts.

The biomass-fired CHP plant will have an annual fuel input of 150,000 tons of forestry wood and clean, uncon­taminated residues from wood processing, and from tall oil obtained from the distillation process at DRT. The co­generation plant will supply DRT with steam for their industrial processes, and at the same time it will export up to 17 MWe to the public grid.

 

In a continuous effort to reduce the impact of industrial activities on the environment, DRT has made the search for alternatives to petroleum-based products its top priority. This project is therefore a natural continu­ation of the work initiated by DRT in eco-friendly developments. Thanks to the biomass cogeneration plant, all of the fossil energy consumed by the Vielle-Saint-Girons site will be spared, thereby preventing the emission of more than 400,000 tons of CO2 over 20 years of operation, equivalent to the emissions of 8,000 motor vehicles.

 

The scope of AET included the AET Fuel dosing system, AET Combustion System, AET Biomass Boiler, the tall oil burner, the AET SNCR DeNOx system, the complete boiler house, the bag filter with lime injection system, and the PLC control system.

World leader in the development of rosin and turpentine extracted from pine, DRT responded to the French government call for tender over one year ago with a proposal to eliminate the consumption of fossil fuels at its facility in Vielle-Saint-Girons. To generate power, the site will instead use byproducts obtained from the distillation of tall oil. To respond to the bid, the company Biomass Energy Solutions VSG was formed, bringing together DRT, Cofely Services (GDF SUEZ Group), and the Caisse des Dépôts. AET is to deliver a 40 MWe biomass power plant to Tilbury Green Power Ltd. and additionally 20 years operation and maintenance; in consortium

AET is to deliver a 40 MWe biomass power plant to Tilbury Green Power Ltd. and additionally 20 years operation and maintenance; both contracts in consortium.

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s (AET), a major independent Danish engineering and contrac­ting company, is to deliver a 125 MW boiler plant to a new biomass power plant  close to London. The highly efficient and proven combustion technology as well as the biomass boiler has been developed in-house by AET.

Order value of €270m

On Monday 23 March, Aalborg Energie Technik a/s and BWSC, working in a consortium, signed the turnkey contract for the delivery of the Tilbury biomass power plant, with the owners: Green Investment Bank (GIB), Irish Utility Electricity Supply Board (ESB) and Aalborg Energie Technik a/s. The two companies will be responsible for construction, operation and maintaining the biomass power plant throughout a 20-year period. The Tilbury Green Energy Plant is expected to commence operations in early 2017.

 

Ownership and financing

GIB and ESB are committing each £35m in a combination of equity and shareholder loans to the project, with additional £2m participation from AET. Senior debt funding is being provided by the Danish Export Credit Agency (Eksport Kredit Fonden), Investec and Rabobank.

 

Shaun Kinsbury, Chief Executive, UK Green Investment Bank, stated: “The Tilbury project is well placed to capitalise on the UK’s largest regional waste wood market, generating green electricity and creating local employment from London’s waste resources. The project is also important for marking the first investment of the Irish electricity utility ESB in UK waste and biomass infrastructure.”

 

Pat O’Doherty, Chief Executive, ESB, stated: “ESB’s investment in Tilbury Green Power demonstrates the company’s continuing commitment to renewable electricity generation and further reducing the carbon mix in our portfolio. It complements ESB’s existing UK investments in wind and gas-fired generation. ESB is delighted to be making this investment in partnership with the Green Investment Bank. As the British and Irish energy markets move closer together, investments like Tilbury will be increasingly important on both sides of the Irish Sea.”

 

Adam Gordon, Power and Infrastructure Finance, Investec Bank, stated: “We are pleased to have closed another landmark deal in this sector. The project really shows that experienced, capable partners working together can find solutions to deliver complex projects.”

 

Proven combustion technology

The highly efficient AET Combustion System (i.e. the AET dosing bin, AET Spreader Stoker, AET Bio Grate) and AET Biomass Boiler has been developed in-house, and has proven its reliability and efficiency in numerous plants in Europe. An example of this is that the large French energy company Cofely Services GDF SUEZ has recently ordered one more boiler plant from AET, following the success of the previous 3 boiler plants supplied by AET to them. The Helius CoRDe cogeneration plant in Scotland, supplied turnkey by AET in 2013 is equally showing great availability and efficiency. The AET Biomass Boiler for Tilbury Green Power is expected to consume approximately 35 ton waste wood per hour and have a boiler efficiency better than 92%. AET is also to supply flue gas cleaning, feed water system, PLC control system and SCADA for the full power plant.

Reducing the amount of waste in London city

The Tilbury Green Power biomass plant, with a net electrical output of 40 MW, will be fuelled with recycled waste wood e.g. from construction sites. Due to the location close to London, directly by the Thames River, the power plant will help in reducing the amount of waste in the city. The plant will consume approx. 270,000 tonnes of waste wood per year, which is to be provided by Stobart Biomass and sourced from the local catchment area. It is expected that the plant will create 370 jobs during the construction phase and approximately 50 permanent jobs in on-going operations.

Her Royal Majesty Queen Margrethe of Denmark visited the Novi Science Park in Aalborg the 18th of June 2014.

 

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s was one of  the companies she visited, and she showed a great interest in the explanations made by our CEO Hans Erik Askou. Her Majesty was very interested in the samples of the many different fuels that can be used in the CHP plants designed by AET, especially in the samples of draff, that is used for fuel at the Helius CorDe plant in Scotland. The highly successful Zignago plant has asked AET to upgrade the plant in order to supply district heating to nearby villages.

The highly efficient Zignago plant has decided to add district heating capabilities to its power plant, and has placed an order for this upgrade by AET. The plant is currently being upgraded with a flue gas heat exchanger, steam heat exchanger and district heating distribution system to supply district heating to the nearby villages.

The two French CHP Plants - BES VSG and Orléans have recently passed their boiler pressure test with success, and everything is progressing according to schedule.

The two French CHP plants, COFELY GDF SUEZ  BES VSG (DRT) and COFELY SODC Orleans are advancing according to schedule and the important milestones of boiler pressure tests were recently passed with great success.

 

The SODC Orleans plant is a 37 MW CHP plant producing 8 MWe Electricity and 25 MWdistrict heating. This plant will supply district heating for the northern part of Orleans. The district heating network covers 15,000 homes, equivalent to 27% of the Orleans city. The wood (110,000 tons/year) is expected to be supplied within a radius of 150 kilometres and will be based on three fuel resources: forestry products, residues from sawmill, and clean recycled wood. The 50 MW Cofely BES VSG project in the Landes area is expected to create more than 50 direct and indirect jobs, produce 97 GWh of electricity/year and 214 GWh of steam/year without the use of fossil fuels. This will reduce CO2 emissions by 20 000 tons/year as the plant efficiency will be more than 60 %. The biomass-fired CHP plant will have an annual fuel input of 150 000 tons of forestry wood, and clean, uncontaminated residues from wood processing. Cofely Services GDF- SUEZ places an order for a 54 MW Biomass Boiler Plant with AET.

Aalborg Energie Technik a/s (AET)  is to deliver a Biomass Boiler Plant to COFELY GDF SUEZ – Biolacq Energies, France.

The Biolacq Energies project, in Lacq, is a biomass fired CHP plant with an annual fuel input of 160.000 tons of forestry-wood, and clean, uncontaminated residues from wood processing. The Biolacq Energies, which is a subsidiary of Cofely Servies, will supply steam to SOBEGI at the INDUSLACQ Industrial Park.

 

The use of wood energy will prevent the release of 86,000 tons of CO2/year in the next 20 years. It will also produce 89 GWh of green electricity per year, which correspondence to consumption for 13,000 homes.

The plant is to be completed and commissioned in 2015.

 

AET is presently completing 2 other plants for Cofely GDF SUEZ, one in Orleans and another in Vielle-Saint-Girons (Landes) in France.

Successful start of new biomass-fired co-generation plant, Helius CoRDe.

The Helius CoRDe Biomass Cogeneration Plant in Speyside, provides for costs savings by more efficient energy use while supplying steam for the production, injecting electricity in the national grid, and saving 64,000 tonnes of CO2/year.

Operations have officially started at the plant that produces 8.4 MWe, enough electricity to power 9000 homes, 73.2 tons per hour of pot ale through the evaporator plant and liquid animal feed from the by-products of whisky distilling.

HRH Prince Charles opens the Helius CoRDe Biomass Plant in Morayshire Scotland

On the 16th april 2013 HRH Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay, officially opened the Helius CoRDe 8.3 MWe Combined Heat and Power Biomass Fired plant at Rothes Morayshire in Scotland.Aalborg Energie Technik a/s (AET) was appointed by Helius Energy for the complete turnkey design, supply, erection and commissioning of the biomass CHP project. This incorporated all elements of the plant from fuel reception, handling and storage systems through to flue gas treatment system only with the exception of civil works below ground level, which was the responsibility of Robertson Northern Ltd. Fichtner Consulting Engineers acted as owners engineer to assist Helius.
