Aalborg Energie Technik a/s Biomass Boiler Plant

ENGIE Cofely, BCN, Grand-Couronne, France

Bio Cogelyo Normandie (BCN) is a biomass-fired cogeneration plant with an annual fuel input of 165,000 tonnes of forestry wood and uncontaminated residues from wood processing.

Biomass has become a rapidly increasing energy source for ENGIE Cofely, which has seen an increase in the number of projects using biomass. Most of the projects are based on wood but also on the use of energy crops and cereal waste.

Performance Test

The AET Biomass Boiler was successfully commissioned and handed over at the end of 2011. The official performance test carried out by Bureau Veritas (APR 2013) showed the following performances:

  • Boiler efficiency at an impressive: 93%
  • In-house power consumption: <1.6% of fuel heat input
  • Emissions below European standards. All measured performances were better than the guaranteed performances by a good margin.

An interesting article has been published in Bioenergy Insight (DEC 2012): "Pedalling towards CHP goals", which explains the environmental impact of the project, environmental regulations in France and project performance.

AET Received Award

As a result of the order from ENGIE Cofely for the BCN project in Normandy and the focus on the French market, AET was awarded the French-Danish Trade Union Export Prize 2010.

AET designed, supplied, constructed and commissioned the following scope of supply:

  • AET Fuel Dosing System
  • AET Combustion System with AET Spreader Stoker and AET BioGrate
  • Oil burner
  • AET Biomass Boiler with superheaters and economisers
  • AET SNCR DeNOx System (installed in 2014)
  • AET Combustion Air System
  • AET Air Steam Preheaters
